Via Ferrata

Topping Telluride’s most adventuresome list is the via ferrata. This 4 to 6 hour activity traverses the sheer rock face of our valley’s most prominent peak, Ajax. The route requires basic mountaineering skills with technical equipment and professional direction provided by a world-class guide staff.

“Via ferrata” is Italian for “the iron way.” Original via ferattas were constructed as a means of an alternate mode of transportation across and over the European Alps during World War II.

Rock Climbing

Telluride’s San Juan Mountains are the ideal playground for climbers.  From high-altitude granite and sandstone climbing to bouldering and the Via Ferrata , Telluride has it all.  Guided climbing experiences that pair climbers with experienced guides are available.
